Corinthians has achieved a significant reduction in the sanctions imposed by the Superior Tribunal de Justiça Desportiva (STJD) following a successful appeal. The club managed to ease the initial penalties, which included player suspensions and the loss of home advantage, in a crucial judgment for the Timão.

According to Meu Timão, the new STJD rulings state that Hugo Souza's ban has been reduced to just one match, while Matheuzinho's was cut to two games. The home advantage penalty was converted into the closure of the Setor Oeste Inferior at Neo Química Arena for a single match.

Furthermore, Corinthians was cleared of a R$ 10,000 security fine linked to match disruptions. However, the R$ 80,000 penalty for racist abuse towards Palmeiras goalkeeper Carlos Miguel remains unchanged.

The initial ruling last Friday had ordered a home-game ban and punishments under article 243-G for racist insult and article 213 for disorder and security failings, citing incidents such as a drone carrying a plush pig and a kite line that halted play. In its defense, Corinthians argued it cannot control stadium airspace, highlighted long-term anti-racism efforts, and called a home ban disproportionate.

The club also sought lighter terms for its players, with Hugo Souza initially hit for offending match officials under article 243-F and Matheuzinho given four games for physical aggression on Flaco López under article 254-A. There was disagreement on the STJD panel, with relator Rodrigo Aiache Cordeiro backing a reduction only for Hugo. Ultimately, the session kept the financial punishment over the Carlos Miguel case, easing the other measures.

As a result of the updated sanctions, Hugo Souza and Matheuzinho are set to miss Sunday’s game against Vasco at Neo Química Arena. The Setor Oeste Inferior will be closed for the "Majestoso" derby on May 10, as ticket sales for the Vasco match are already under way.
